  Susan Richards graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in painting. Additional studies include an independent study with Neil Welliver at the University of Pennsylvania, studies in ceramics and history at Harvard University and certification from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

 Susan's professional career has focused on conservation and education in the Arts. She was a Conservator of books and paper at the Boston Atheneaum and an educator in secondary schools in Boston suburbs. Susan has also worked professionally as a portrait artist, with the completion of over forty commissions.

 Susan received the Rudolph Arnheim Award for studies in the history of figure drawing from Mass College of Art, a fellowship to the Artist's Renewal program at Skidmore College, a grant to attend the Vermont Studio Center and in 2015 a residency at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico.

 Susan has exhibited in a variety of public and private venues including galleries at the Mass College of Art, the Bunting Institute, the Boston Athenaeum, Cambridge and Concord Art Associations and professional galleries in Massachusetts and New York. Most recently Susan has been in solo and group shows at the Kingston Gallery in Boston, the Nave Annex,13 Forest Gallery, the Danforth Museum and Gallery 224 at Harvard University. She is also a member of the DeCordova Museum loan program, with paintings placed in public and private institutions. She has been a resident artist at The Harvard Ceramics Program since 2019.
